In 2013, the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the global oil industry event that is held annually in Houston in May, attracted over 100,000 attendees. There were some 2,700 exhibitors who occupied space equivalent to eleven American football fields. There were delegates from 40 countries. Outside the exhibition floor there were panel discussions and presentations by industry executives, regulators and policymakers, as well as technical papers by engineers and earth scientists.
