Remapping the Mexican energy sector into English

MEI report coverWe have updated a report from 2010 that had been written to stabilize the translation of new terms from the Energy Reform of 2008.  One of the advances was to find a precise translation of “asignación,” a critical term that refers to the blocks that Pemex has received in Round Zero.  We have heard multiple translations: assignment, entitlement, award, among others (even “assignation”).

The term that best fits the legal, institutional and political facts (as we understand them) is “allotment.”  Look it up to be sure.

A lot more work needs to be done, and your collaboration is invited, both in relation to new terms that should be added, as well as in relation to making definitions more precise. Contributors will receive future updates to this report.
